  1. I did not particularly find it beneficial due to the fact that I'm the kind of person who does a lot better when learning as I go and figuring out details by myself, rather than following tips from a book, even if the process is slightly new and unfamiliar. However, I can objectively see the benefits of reading such an article to people who benefit from following the rules for it is easy, broken down into steps, and filled with interesting helpful ideas.

    2. I agree with you on the fact that people have their own techniques, and I appreciate how you objectively saw both ends of this, you lay your opinion first, and then "switch sides" to see how it may be beneficial to other. Good post!

    3. I agree with you because I can relate to what you said. Just like you, I think I learn and memorize better when i figure out details by myself.

    4. I completely agree with you and your point makes sense a lot since no matter how much you take information from a book, it is always more beneficial to practice and learn things by yourself. Practice makes perfect!

    5. Good job mentioning your own perspective as well as the benefits it could have for other people with different perspectives

    6. I totally agree with your opinion since every student can have his own stylistic way of expressing his ideas rather than following rules as what a book implies.

  2. Personally, I found it beneficial in some areas as it was relatable, and it gave me some useful techniques to use in the future. However, I also didn’t find it beneficial in other areas, because I did not agree with particular aspects mentioned in this text. Overall, I do agree with the statement mentioned “your success with academic writing depends upon how well you understand what you are doing..and then how you approach the writing task”.

    1. I totally agree with you,it gave us some crucial and useful techniques. Moreover,i also agree with the fact that it didn't help in other aspects.I personally think that writing is a skill that differs from a person to another, and thus cant be acquired fully through books.

    2. For I also believe that this article has some advantages and disadvantages, I agree with you on the fact that it presents useful techniques that helped me. In addition to that, it is also very clear that it has some disadvantages and that i didn't find it beneficial in other areas such as experience and practice.

  4. I personally think that, generally, educating yourself on topics that seem rather "important", such as in our case "Academic Writing", is very critical in order to catch a few tips and tricks that you may not have known you needed to improve a piece of writing. However, I don’t think this reading was really beneficial for me, even though we grasp a little something from anything we read. When it comes to writing, I tend to learn from personal experiences and follow my own way: roughly, I like writing all over the place (as in a draft) and then constructing it as I go in my head, but only truly starting when I know I have an excellent foundation. I will say though that this may help people find their “own technique” of writing thanks to it being broken down into easy-to-understand steps.

    1. I really appreciate the idea that you added about the fact that people grasp a little from everything that they read, especially since I'm a big reader myself. It got me thinking about all the prominent ideas that I've encountered in books, and the tiny insignificant details that for some reason never left my mind. On a side note, great response and approach to the writing! You presented a really good balance between the objective importance of this reading and your own opinion.

    3. Although you have a different opinion than mine, but I really admire it. It is true, each one of us has his own technique, his own style in learning. After all, we all have a specific way that makes us unique, that makes us who we are.
      Great post!

    4. I agree with you, because whether this reading was beneficial or not really depends on the type of learner one is. But of course these easy steps can be used as basic steps without limiting one's originality in their writings.

  5. I found it mostly beneficial because it gives us tips and helpful information about how to find useful ressources , ameliorate our technique and write a good academic paragraph and later on a good essay. However , i think that , and agree with my classmates that sometimes the style , english background and book culture helps the student . And it’s never too late to get better at it and try to ameliorate your performance . Finally for all students , it gives a solid basis to start writing .

  7. Personally, I found it beneficial because it taught me many important details that are helpful to improve my writing skills. It also helped me identify the kinds of academic writing tasks and I now know what steps I should follow to answer to each one. I feel like I am more aware of what they want from me in a writing assignment (techniques and concepts i should use...).

    1. I agree with you because it is always important to have a well structured writing style, also it is straightforward, and formal.

  8. I found that it was kind of beneficial since it helped me understand the meaning of academic writing and know how to correctly analyze. However, I personally prefer practice instead of just reading because it helps me more by learning from my mistakes.

  9. I found it to be quite beneficial. Not only did the article clear up many misconceptions about writing, but it also provided new insight on how to write. The article explained to me how to master many tasks i had difficulty with: it provided tips on how to formulate an argument, how to research, and how to analyze to find the explicit and implicit messages in articles. The article's clear organization of ideas into headings made it very easy to read and understand, as well as focus on each subtopic in the article. On the other hand, this article alone would not suffice to master the skills of academic writing, since practice is the only thing that "makes perfect". Hence this article should be paired up with an actual academic writing assignment so that we can use all the tips given and apply them in order to write a good academic composition.

  11. I would personally say that I found this article alternating; in other words, it is both beneficial and not. Firstly, this article is very helpful, it has some very important points and gives us a quite amount of techniques and rules to follow so we can be able to ameliorate our writing skills in academic writing. It is very well guided and enjoyable to read, it can be very beneficial to people who need a hand or steps to follow. However, I believe that it is necessary for people to find their own way, to explore more, read more in order for them to be great at whatever they want to excel at. This article presents multiple benefits but it also limits the students who follow it by the point’s free space to have their own way at doing it.

  12. I personally found the article to be quite helpful as I always get confused about what makes an essay "academic", and this article simplifies the tasks of academic writing really well. I do, however, think that this article alone will not help a student master the task of academic writing, and he or she will still need to read plenty of "academic" articles to get an idea of the vocabulary that must be used, such as certain key expressions or thematic links.

    1. My opinion is quite the same, this article alone can't increase your level in English, it's like 30% article and 70% application (reading other articles and writing our own)

    2. I agree with you in that the article reduces confusion in alot of ways regarding the issue of academic writing, and that application is the best way to achieve good English.

  13. From my own point of view, this text was quite helpful. It holds simple steps that are easy to understand and to follow. It sheds light on many ideas that sometimes seem to be confusing, especially the myths that represent a sort of barrier for some of us in writing.
It also encourages us on expanding our sources and improving our research skills in order to become better writers and to develop the skill of using the right evidence in the right place. Moreover, it provides us with tips that help us stay on the right track and know what to do in very specific situations. It pushes us on analyzing, interpreting, and demonstrating our abilities.
However, practice remains the ultimate key to success. No matter how much this text is beneficial, one can never improve himself without high self-reliance.

  14. In my opinion, we cannot acquire fully the skill by following the written steps in a book without practice and practical exercises. However, this text is helpful and provide us tips that can work efficiently as the myths that prevent us sometimes from developing fully our skills. In addition, it helps us distinguish between an academic essay and other types of essay.

  16. I did find it a bit beneficial as it kind of introduced me to academic writing. However, if I were to read it alone without any applications I wouldn't benefit from it at all. It's basically up to what I do in order to find out if i works for me or not.

  17. I personally found it useful since it states the basic steps of writing, common rules you can refer to when you don't know how to organize your thoughts into an essay. But while it gives you an approach to a clear essay, each one of us will have his own way of researching, and his own writing style and will learn from their own mistakes. These rules can be seen as abstract when not tested and learned by experience.

  18. I personally found it very beneficial as I see myself very weak in writing essays and looking forward to improving my skills. The way the information in the text is divided into steps and points makes it very interesting and engrossing. I learned how to focus on concepts that should be focused on before performing any writing assignment.

  19. I personally find it beneficial in limited areas. In my opinion, every student has his own writing style that he/she prefers. Written notes about how to write can help us to a certain extent, but creativity is what matters most. However, academic writing introduces students to the basics of developing a well organized essay.

    1. I agree with you that the benefits are limited, and that creativity and techniques are very important and can help a student to creat a well organized essay. But i think that even a student without creativity can write a good essay if he/she gets enough practice.

  20. I personally found it a bit helpful because I learned a couple of tips on an important topic: “academic writing “. It helped me master many techniques such as analyzing and researching. But i beleive that this article isn’t enough for me to master academic writing.
I feel that each person has His own way of working. We all have different techniques on how to write an essay.
In my opinion our writing will improve a lot with practice. But these tips and tricks helps us avoid simple mistakes.

  21. Academic writing is a technique of writing used always to a specific group of people with the same purpose of understanding. It is easy to read, and well backed up. Its purpose is mostly to give knowledge about a specific subject. I think it is beneficial for people who are looking for information about a particular subject with a clear, formal form. Its benefits are that it increases intellectual thinking for readers, helps them develop better writing skills, and writing structure and academic form.

  22. I believe that academic writing was created for a reason and that is to transform students into professional writers. This type of writing seemed quite beneficial to me since it states that each subject matter requires a unique set of vocab and format that one must follow, which not only organizes the overall structure of ones essay but enriches the person’s common knowledge and vocabulary. It also pushes the writer to deeply uncover his subject matter and present it in a formal and professional way which is a great advantage in the work feild .

  23. I personally found it helpful because it gave us as students good tips and a general idea about academic writing. As a student it helped me particularly because we will need to write various essays and more specifically academic essays.
However, reading about a technique is not enough. One must practice and practice multiple times in order to perfect the technique and skills needed to write a perfect or near to perfect academic essay.

  24. I personally I found it beneficial. In fact it helped me discover what “academic writing” is about. It offers good techniques and skills to start a first scartch of my essay. However, as I previously mentioned, I think it can be helpful only to build a plan but not to develop all the ideas because everyone has his/her own style and way of writing that can’t be bounded by these techniques.

  26. I personally found it to be very helpful as it shows us all the tips and all we need to know in order to succeed in our academic writing. it is very beneficial for the people that often struggles when they have to write, just like myself, and these helpful tips will sure guide us well with our future tasks. However, the article alone is not enough material for us to master our writing skills. Writing is much deeper than that, and requires a lot more than just reading the "do's and don't's", it requires us to have an important culture which is formed mainly by reading books but also from movies, arts....

  29. Personally, I didn't find it as beneficial as anticipated. However, I did relate to most of what was being said and explained, which gave me reassurance and useful techniques to consider in future writing. Overall I have realized that I approach each essay differently depending on its context, thus I like to consider what the book says but not rely on it.
